Foods that will Keep you Healthy while Travelling

If you are one of those people who frequently travel or are always on the run, there’s a good chance that food is not something that is on top of your mind. You are likely to be one of those people who grab a bite here and there that may or may not be the healthiest of choices. This may not be one of the wisest things to do when you are travelling.

Different foods have different effects on the body and while we are travelling the body needs extra nourishment to be at par with untimely schedules and varied weather conditions.

Here’s a list of superfoods that you must consume while travelling to give yourself that extra energy and nutrition that the body requires while you’re conquering new destinations one step at a time.

1. Bananas

Bananas are the perfect snack! Have them before a workout or post one, early in the morning or just before you go to bed, they are super rich in magnesium and potassium and are great for the body. Though it’s not commonly known but bananas are also great muscle relaxants; they help produce melatonin and are known to calm our nerves. Do your sore muscles a favour and buy a couple of bananas from the local grocery store and snack on them at least once a day.

2. Yogurt

All that local food we try at new destinations doesn’t necessarily make our digestive system really happy. Extra spices, differently cooked meat, and various other factors can cause indigestion and other stomach related troubles. Yogurt is easy to digest and a great coolant for the stomach.

3. Beets

Long flights, jet lag, and a long day of sightseeing among other things can be exhausting for the body. Build up your stamina by having beets before you travel and don’t miss a chance to have them in a foreign land.

4. Lemon

What can be worse than not being on a trip? Being sick on a trip to a faraway land. Get yourself into the habit of asking for water with a dash of lemon. Lemons are known to have high contents of vitamin C which is a great booster for your immune system and will help keep the common cold, flu and fever away.

5. Ginger

Ginger is an absolute super food. Use it to cool your stomach in times of indigestion, or have ginger tea and relax your muscles and reduce that headache, make a paste of it and soothe that sunburn – ginger has various benefits having it around especially when you’re travelling is a good idea.

6. Quinoa

Quinoa is God sent if you are going to be at high altitudes for a while. It has high contents of iron and is super rich in fibre making it’s almost perfect for fighting any kind of altitude sickness. Iron rich food helps ease nausea and compensates for reduced oxygen by producing more blood cells. Hikers and regular flyers alike should make quinoa a regular part of their diet.
